Who we are
Faculty on Call provides colleges with a credentialed Faculty of Record — without posting a job, running a search, or expanding payroll.
We exist for academic leaders who need a section covered and cannot wait on a search. Students keep working in your LMS. You keep the catalog, the tuition, and the relationship with students.
We are not a teaching-assistant service and we are not a new campus platform. We show up as the instructor of record. Automation takes the administrative load so that instructor can focus on the student experience — the right check-in, with the right student, at the right time.
Founder
John Kolen, Ph.D.
Computer scientist with deep roots in teaching and industry. He taught computer science as Assistant Professor at the University of West Florida (UWF) — algorithms, AI, languages, software engineering, and more — as Visiting Assistant Professor at New Mexico Tech (systems, databases, data science), and as an instructor at community colleges including Foothill–De Anza and Northwest Florida State (then Okaloosa–Walton).
Industry work spans startups and large companies (including Google, Meta, and Electronic Arts), with a focus on AI, distributed systems, optimization, and data. Over fifty U.S. patents granted; research publications with thousands of citations.
Faculty on Call comes from both sides of that work: teaching in the classroom, and building what it takes to cover a section when the college cannot.
